Cape Verde Itself
Cape Verde, a country situated in West Africa, is comprised of a group of islands in the Atlantic Ocean. Cape Verde is formed by 10 main islands, and 8 smaller islets. Some of the main islands are Sant Antao, great for hikers, Sao Vicente, known for it’s cultural capital, Mindelo. The island of Sal has some great beaches, where visitors are attracted by the water sports facilities and the fantastic resorts. Although the island of Santa Luzia is uninhabited, it is a lovely place to visit, and a day trip from Sao Vincente is well worth the money. Santiago Island is historically known as the first island to be inhabited in Cape Verde, and is home to the current capital city, Praia.
If you wish to get away from it all, the Island of Brava is a great place to spend a day. It is only accessible by boat, and day trips can be organised from through your holiday rep. Please bear in mind that British visitors will require a visa to visit Cape Verde, and they can be purchased from The Cape Verde Bureau in Liverpool, telephone 0151 255 1314.
